Local Attractions

When the Buford Dam was constructed on the Chattahoochee River in 1956, it flooded 38,000 acres of land, creating Lake Lanier, one of Hall County’s most popular tourist attractions. Lake Lanier draws over 10 million visitors each year, who enjoy plenty of recreational activities such as boating, jet skiing, and canoeing. At the lake, you can visit Lake Lanier Islands Waterpark, the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club, Legacy Lodge, or the Holiday Marina.

If you’re into pottery, drop by Gillsville, which was made popular by countless talented clay artists, past and present. Gillsville hosts the annual Turning and Burning Festival, a celebration where anyone can learn and experience the art of pottery, sample homemade pastries and other delicacies, enjoy watching performances and competitions, and more.
